Frequently Asked Questions

General

How do I book an evaluation?

To book an evaluation you can use the 'Book Online' menu option or go our 'Services' section and select 'Book Now' next to the service you are interested in. Or you can contact us directly using the 'Contact' menu option.

How do I gain access to the building?

The main entrance to the building is unlocked between 7:30am and 4:30pm M-F. If your appointment is within these hours, you are free to come up to my space on your own. If your appointment is outside of those hours during the week, or on the weekend, please send me a message that you have arrived and I will meet you at the main entrance.

Is there an elevator?

Unfortunately, the building only has service elevators that are not for public use.

Is there parking?

There is on-street parking available. I would recommend parking at the entrance to Lynn Way, N Murtland St., or on McPherson Blvd. Parking is available at the loading docks near the main entrance to the building but people double park there often, and you might run the risk of (temporarily) getting blocked in. If you do decided to park at the loading dock and park behind someone, please leave your name and phone number on the dash so they can call you if they need to get out.

Who are these evaluations for?

These services are for everyone from the casual gym-goer that want’s objective data to track their fitness journey to coaches that want to monitor neuromuscular readiness of their players during the season. We offer packages for individuals, personal trainers, gym owners, high school, universities, and club teams.

I'm a sports performance coach and gym owner, how will these evaluation services benefit my business?

As a business owner, I like to think of these evaluations as an additional service that can be offered to your current clients. Providing your clients with objective feedback about their performance, and their trends in performance demonstrating adaptations to training, not only keeps them engaged but will help clients buy-in to your program and keep them coming back. As a coach, this objective data will give you greater insights about how your athletes are adapting to the training, so you can make appropriate modifications to their plan to optimize their gains!

Will I get to take the results of the eval with me?

Yes, absolutely! There are two options for this: Either you can take a print out of your results or I can share a link with you so you have them on your phone at all times!

Are their packages available for multiple evaluations?

Yes, absolutely! We offer a monthly membership that gives two Whole Body Essentials evals and one training consultation per month. We also offer packages for 2 or 12 evaluations over the year.

Can these evaluations be used to diagnose injuries?

No. Any information provided from these evaluations should not be used as a medical diagnosis, and if you have concerns about any injuries you should a medical professional.

Strength + Fundamental Movement Class

How many classes are offered and what’s the capacity of each class?

Right now there is only one class offering, two sessions per week (Tuesday's and Thursday's) for 8 weeks (16 total classes) and 6 spots available.

If I miss a class, does it roll over to next month?

Unfortunately, no. Once a package is purchased that spot is reserved for 16 sessions. Because of limited availability, I cannot reserve that spot indefinitely.

Can I use the gym during times when classes aren’t offered?

Sorry, no. At this time we are not offering any "open gym" hours for people to use at their leisure. We hope to change this in the future.

Who are the classes for?

Primarily, this course is geared towards individuals that are new to weight training and feel like they don't know where to start. Especially, those that might feel intimidated by the weight room, I will work to simplify and demystify things so you leave this class feeling confident in any setting. Course content will focus on movement efficiency through strengthening fundamental movement patterns like squatting, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, and jumping. So, even though these classes are for novices, many other groups of people will find benefit from them – whether you’re a former collegiate athlete with an extensive training history, or you’re a fitness enthusiast, or you’ve never stepped into a weight room before. If you want to get stronger and move a little easier, these classes are for you. If, however, you are looking for something specific, like speed development or Olympic lifting, this course is not for you.

If I miss a class, will I “fall behind”?

Short answer: Missing one or two classes is not a problem. Longer answer: The first few classes are the most important as I will spend extra time doing initial assessments, explaining rationale for the different exercises and style of training, and getting everyone accustomed to the flow of the workouts. I encourage you not to miss these initial classes. The intensity of workouts are designed to adapt to anyone’s training status. So you will not have to "push" or "keep up" with people working at a higher intensity. However, there is a natural progression that occurs in the classes, where some exercises will only be done if people are prepared and ready for them. If you miss too many classes, you wont be prepared for the progression.

How are the classes structured? Are they similar to CrossFit or HIIT training?

In general, every class will have a 15-20 min warm-up period that will involve a slow increase in intensity, 20-25 min of functional movements, 20-25 min for the “main” lift which will focus more on traditional strength exercises like barbell squat or deadlifts, and we will finish the last 15-20 min with individualized auxiliary movements. In sort, these classes are not the same as CrossFit. We may, however, include some high intensity workout as the class progresses, but this will depend entirely on the group. I tailor the programming specific to each group of individuals. So, it is difficult to say what exact content of each class will be. Some people may be ready for high intensity workouts and other may not be. Likewise, not everyone that is ready for high intensity workouts will be ready every day. I may modify planned workouts on any given day based on the people’s “readiness.” (See the "Training Style" section).

Is this a weight loss program?

No, this program is not geared towards weight loss. I place a bigger emphasis on teaching proper exercise technique, improving strength (and power, if training for certain sports), functional movement capacity and movement efficiency.

Do you offer nutrition plans?

No. I am not a licensed dietitian, nor do I have any nutrition certificates, and so I cannot provide any nutritional advise.

What if I have an injury?

If you have gone through rehab and been cleared by your doctor, you are welcome to join, but I won’t be able to help anyone rehab their injury.
